In this episode, we check out the Ages Overdrive by Walrus Audio. Colt Westbrook, the President of Walrus Audio, joined us on our 19 Conversations series recently. After this conversation, in which he mentioned a new pedal was about to be released, Colt and the guys at Walrus were kind enough to send us over the new pedal. We are really excited to release this first look video at their new pedal. The Ages Overdrive is fantastic! We love the blend knob and with 5 different modes, it is like getting 5 overdrives in one pedal. In addition to sounding great, it cleans up really well with the volume knob on your guitar making it very expressive. Congrats on the new product Walrus Audio. Awesome job!
In this episode, we check out the Direct Drive V4 by Barber Electronics. We have three very early versions of this pedal and it is one of our favorite overdrives of all time! In fact, it has been used on more episodes on this channel than any other pedal. The Beard purchased his first Direct Drive directly from the Barber Electronics shop, driving to Maryland at the time to pick it up. One of the highlights of PJ and the Beard’s short history was to have David Barber join us for an interview episode in the basement where we film the show. How often do you get to sit down and chat with the creator of one of your all-time favorite pieces of gear? That said, we are super excited to get our hands on the latest version of the Direct Drive and it only gets better. In the year and 10 months, we have been doing this channel we have never recommended or said the following, but we will now… Buy this pedal and buy it now. You simply will not be disappointed.
In this episode, we check out the Fuzzy Fox by Scattered Abroad Guitar Works. The Fuzzy Fox is a two-knob Fuzz that is loosely based on the infamous Bazz Fuss Circuit. This is a single transistor, single diode circuit that can go from a smooth overdrive all the way to a vintage velcro-like fuzz. A big thank you goes out to Rhylan for sending the Fuzzy Fox over for us to check out!
In this episode, we check out the Stinger Fuzz by TL Pedals. We met Tim recently through a friend of the show. Paul Ewing of StompBox Steals introduced us to Tim which led to an interview with him on our 19 Conversations series. Tim was nice enough to send out some pedals to check out. The Stinger Fuzz in the first one we are filming, but there are some more to come. Stay tuned!
In this episode, we check out the MKII Signature Analog Tremolo by Hamstead Soundworks. This is an absolutely “lovely” tremolo! Everything about it screams attention to detail and the sound is no exception. The Signature Tremolo takes Hamstead’s signature sign wave circuit straight out of their Artist +RT series amplifiers and allows us to place it right on our pedalboards. Three different waveforms are offered with a shape knob that allows you to adjust which way the waveform leans. There is also an expression pedal input on the back to control the speed setting. Let’s not forget the gain knob that allows you to add up to 10dB of clean boost.
In this episode, we check out the Pulse Revolving Speaker Emulator by Dawner Prince Electronics. The Pulse is an open cabinet revolving speaker emulator, inspired by Pink Floyd’s legendary rotary speaker Doppola and Gibson’s Maestro Rover RO-1. First, let us start by saying… wow! This pedal nails that sound perfectly. What we love about this pedal is that it brings a new and unique sound to the field of rotary speaker emulation. Most “leslie” or “rotary” pedals are based on some type of leslie speaker. The Pulse is different and it is magical. Even though it nails that Pink Floyd sound, we think any player looking for a unique rotary sound will enjoy this pedal.
In this episode, we check out the Roto Sonic Rotary Speaker by Keeley Electronics. The Roto Sonic features three Dopple-Swirly-Vibey sounds. It’s a three-mode pedal with custom-crafted rotary speaker effects. The three modes are Les’ Rotary Speaker, Vibro-S mode, and U-Vibe. Fill the stage with organ tones as rich as a dark lacquer. These Doppler effect tones are based on vintage speaker cabinet designs. So dead-on perfect, you’ll swear you can hear the motor Wurrr. Keeley’s DSP has taken these vintage speaker and rotary sounds to a higher level. The Roto Sonic is amazing in detail and nuance, and not just another chorus of bad sounding phasers.
In this episode, we check out the TR1 Tremolo by DLS Effects. The TR1 is a pure analog, stereo Tap Tremolo with tons of tremolo styles and functionality. We are super impressed with this pedal. Unlike other tremolos, the TR1 does not focus on different waveforms (although you can choose between sin, triangle, and custom w/an internal jumper) but rather it focuses on giving you the options to really tailor the sound of your tremolo to your personal taste. We believe this pedal is really unique in its approach to getting an excellent tremolo sound!
In this episode, we check out the new 20/20 Bad Horsie Wah from Morley. This pedal has the features you love, it is switchless, optical, and built like a tank. Morley has added its new 20/20 buffer to “Defend Your Sound.” Add to that a smaller footprint, cool red color, and glow in the dark treadle grip/toe-end logo. The Bad Horsie has a volume knob that allows you to push the wah signal as well as a switch to change to contour wah mode. Essentially, giving you two wahs in one pedal. The original Bad Horsie has been a staple on Jason’s pedalboard since its release and we are super excited to share Morley’s latest version with you!
In this episode, we officially welcome the Tyler Amp Works PT-22 to the show. This is a 22 watt amp that is a blend of the blackface 64 Princeton and 65 Deluxe reverb amps. We have been using it on the channel for a while now and have fallen in love with it. The PT-22 sounds great recorded and sounds great with every pedal we plug into it.
In this episode, we welcome the Rivolta Mondata VIII to the channel. We have been looking for a new guitar that offers us some versatility we don’t currently have available. The Mondata VIII does just that and so much more. With its three “Fumante” mini humbuckers and unique double switching system this guitar offers a wide range of tonal options. Beyond that, it looks and plays fantastic! For those of you that don't know. Rivolta is designed by Dennis Fano of Novo Guitars in conjunction with Eastwood Guitars. Join us as we go over the guitar and welcome it to the channel. A big thank you to Wes from Rivolta for working with us to make this happen!
In this episode, we check out the BL Booster pedal from TL Pedals. This is a JFET clean boost pedal. What we love about this pedal is that Tim’s daughter helps make them and she gets to keep the proceeds. We think Tim is providing an awesome experience for his daughter and we love supporting that!
